The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Express Anger About Size Changes
Vinted users have been reacting angrily after an update resulted in listings displaying inaccurate size information.
This online marketplace has altered its size classifications for women's and children's garments but did not contact all shoppers about the modification.
Digital Channels Backlash
Numerous buyers and vendors are posting online stating that platform listings now display an altered size classification compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification.
The platform stated the updated approach better aligns with comparable marketplaces.
It has advised users to examine their items and adjust the sizing manually where appropriate, causing user dissatisfaction.
Measurement Approach Modifications
Before the change, the measurements included a single numeric size and a letter, like S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes an alphabetical indicator and numerical range such as S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the sizing has been recategorised - such as a large size was formerly size 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
Shopper Stories
One content creator, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
Another user, from Glasgow, stated items she posted featuring size 14 markings were displaying on the service as size 20–22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they may become frustrated," she said.
Necessary Adjustments
A different user, from Derby, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".
"This situation is especially annoying, since I have chronic health issues and Vinted sales have been crucial for me since losing part of my income," she stated.
Service Background
The app has more than 100 million shoppers, with 18 million British users.
It has emerged as a preferred choice compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance that an unexpected update to the app has proved unpopular: earlier, the platform withdrew an update to its shipping options after backlash from users.
