The EU might “respond swiftly and decisively” against what it calls “unjustified” travel bans issued by the US on five European individuals involved in fighting digital hatred and disinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.

European Leaders Decry US Action as ‘Intimidation’

Officials from Europe such as Emmanuel Macron charged Washington of “bullying and threats”, after the travel bans were placed on individuals who have been central to efforts to introduce laws regulating American tech companies.

“For far too long, European activists have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to pressure American platforms to punish American viewpoints they oppose,” wrote the US secretary of state in a social media post. “This government will not stand for these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”
